This is one CHEAP hunk of junk. The plastic is thin, brittle, poorly trimmed. The seams are warped, open, showing shavings, stress marks from assembly stresses. I haven't seen a piece of work like this in a long, long time. It's the kind of cheap workmaship I associate with 1970s Chinese plastic junk.
If that weren't bad enough, the one shipped to me was obviously used and abused.
The clock sent to us was destroyed prior to arrival at our place. The little car is, for some reason, very heavy, like 2x the weight of the rest of the hollow clock. It had obviously torn loose from the flimsy plastic base by some other buyer. It was full of stains, greasy finger prints, scratches and other accumulated filth. That buyer stuffed the clock into a couple of chunks of bubble wrap, stuff the entire thing in the original box, returned it, and that's how it arrived to me, obviously broken, pawed through.
If this thing works (and I hope it will), it's worth, at most, $10.
It says "Mom invented" on the box. I'd figure a Mom to take a little more pride in the junk going out the factory in China.

I started looking for something like this when one of my kids (age 2) started waking at 4:30 thinking it was time to get up and play. Once I got him back in bed, around 5:00 my other kiddo (age 4) did the same thing. It was getting old, very quickly and I was beating myself up trying to explain to them why they need to stay in bed and how can they know it is okay to get up (without waking me up).
My husband had seen a clock similar to this in a magazine, so I started looking. I had a tough time deciding whether to go with this one, or another one with a lot more features. I'm sure the other one is great, too, but I opted for the simplicity of this one and also thought that my kids would love the "stoplight" concept and think it was more fun. I am very happy with my choice. The clock is extremely easy to set and operate. It took a few days for my kids to get the hang of it, but now the first thing they say when they come out in the morning is "My light is green!"
I should take away at least one star from the rating for quality, but I am so grateful this item even exists, I don't care about the flaws. I ordered one boy and one girl clock, and the cars on them are so heavy compared to the lightweight plastic of the the clock that both cars were broken off when I received them. I don't care that much, so I just hot glued them back on. There is potential for them to be broken beyond repair in shipping, though. (Amazon's return program is awesome though, so I wouldn't worry about it) They are overpriced for what they are. Probably taking advantage of desperate parents a little - it should either be cheaper in price or higher in quality, but again, I'm still happy with my purchase.

I've got one of these for my three year old, which we got about a year ago, and it works well enough...although as others have noted it's remarkably cheap quality is a bit worse than I'd expect for its price. The other major issue I have with it is that it's BRIGHT - I'm pretty sure that it woke him up when it turned green more than a few times (the issue that has been noted before that it only stays green for one hour then goes out is also a little annoying). I ended up taking it apart and putting a few layers of masking tape on the inside of the lenses to dim them down a fair bit to reduce the brightness factor, as well as flipping the "audible alarm on/off" switch to the inside so that my oh-too-clever son can't turn it onto "buzz" anymore. Even with the downsides, though, it does (mostly) work - well enough that I'm buying another one tonight for my almost-two-year-old (with the plan to disassemble it to dim it down and flip the switch before he ever sees it).
